A mobile version of the popular game Palworld is in the works, with PUBG company Krafton working out a licensing deal with Pocketpair to bring the game to phones.
Following Palworld's release in January 2024, scammers quickly created fake versions of Palworld for mobile, prompting Pocketpair to warn fans to remain vigilant.
Palworld bears similarities to Pokemon, but Nintendo's lawsuit pertains to patent infringement claims, not copyright infringement allegations.
One analyst believes Nintendo will prevail in its lawsuit against Pocketpair, saying he believes that because Nintendo can't stop Palworld on the basis of copyright, it intends to 'screw them with other things,' like technical patents.
