Nintendo has announced the closure of the eShop and Switch Online services in China by early 2026, without citing specific reasons for this decision.
The shutdown aligns with China's recent regulation limiting children's online gaming time to only one hour per day, impacting user engagement with the Switch.
Starting April 1, 2026, the eShop in China will close, leading to the absence of game sales and demos, coupled with network services ceasing on May 15.
In response to the shutdown, Nintendo is offering WeChat users a selection of up to four free games, as part of their exit strategy from the market.
