Players discovered that online matches can end abruptly if one player uses a Mii Fighter character while the other uses the original Switch. Further complications include issues with thumbnails not saving correctly for customizable Mii Fighters. Nintendo has acknowledged the issue and is working on a future update, advising players to avoid using Mii Fighters in the meantime, especially on launch day.
The conditions for this issue to occur, luckily, appear to be pretty narrow. It's happening in online matches of the fighting game where one person is on a Switch 1 and the other is on a Switch 2.
Nintendo is aware of the problem, according to a translation on X by user OatmealDome. The game company said that an update for this Smash compatibility issue will be released "soon," although no more specific date has been provided.
