"I'm super proud of the project and what the team accomplished over the last six years,"
"[The] Marathon art issue has been resolved with Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment to my satisfaction,"
Joseph Cross, a veteran artist who served as lead concept artist during the Destiny years and returned to Bungie around 2020, has left the studio with his Bungie senior art director role ending in 2025. Cross helped shape the visual aesthetic for Marathon and publicly thanked the team and community for support of the art direction. Marathon, an extraction shooter, was delayed and reworked after negative alpha feedback and allegations over visual decals; the art issue was reported resolved to Cross's satisfaction. The game received tweaks such as adding proximity chat and is scheduled for March 2026.
