Longtime Bungie Boss Pete Parsons Announces Departure After Two Decades
Briefly

Pete Parsons is departing Bungie after more than twenty years with the company. Parsons joined Bungie in 2002, served as COO, and became CEO in early 2016. Justin Truman, Chief Development Officer and former General Manager for Destiny 2, will succeed Parsons and has Parsons' endorsement. Marathon, Bungie's next game, was delayed indefinitely amid reports of full integration into PlayStation Studios and other internal issues. Bungie experienced mass layoffs in July 2024 and faced allegations of a toxic, greed-driven corporate culture. Sony executives have expressed confidence that Marathon will not repeat past live-service failures.
"the honor of a lifetime"
"deeply proud of the worlds we've built together and the millions of players who call them home."
"I have worked alongside Justin for many years. His passion for our games, our team, and our players is unmatched. As a leader in engineering, production, and design--and most recently as the General Manager for Destiny 2 and our Chief Development Officer--he has been instrumental in bringing some of the most memorable moments in Bungie's history to life. He lives and breathes this studio, and I have full confidence that he is the right person to lead Bungie forward."
