Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, developed by a small team at Sandfall Interactive, has gained acclaim in the gaming community, with Hideo Kojima expressing admiration during a recent event. He emphasized the advantages of a small team size, which allows for better control and creative cohesion compared to larger teams. Kojima, who has experienced both small and large team dynamics, noted that larger teams often lose creative synergy and can feel like "factory" work. Matthew Handrahan from Kepler Interactive added that while Expedition 33's core creative team consisted of around 30 people, numerous contributors also played supporting roles throughout the development.
"When I first started, it was like a team of six. You could do everything yourself. Now, it’s expanded. You can't really control each employee, so you delegate."
"Big companies, like 600, 1,000 people, they're full of totally different teams. Everyone's concentrating on their work and then combining together."
