It's Time To Stop Treating The Epic Game Store Like A Joke
"The Epic Games Store might still feel to some like just a glorified Fortnite launcher. It was until recently the only way to play Epic's hit battle royale on PC and that's certainly what many of the people downloading the client use it for. But there's a growing contingent of players that use it for playing other PC games as well."
""Sixty percent of our audience are dual users," he tells me. "They use Steam and the Epic Games Store. Forty percent don't. But not all the 40 percent are Fortnite players. A lot of them are coming off of games like Riot's games or Minecraft or Roblox or things like that. I'm actually always pretty surprised at how big that incremental group is. But for those dual players, there's an interesting thing.""
The Epic Games Store remains associated with Fortnite but is gaining traction as a hub for third-party PC games. Total gameplay hours on the store declined 14 percent last year while hours spent on non-Epic titles increased 4 percent. Epic reports roughly 67 million average monthly active users, with about 26 percent playing Fortnite and 60 percent using both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Many users access titles like Riot games, Minecraft, and Roblox through the store. Epic acknowledges launcher shortcomings and is rebuilding the client to deliver a better experience without seeking to eliminate Steam.
