According to MachineGames' creative director Axel Torvenius, the upcoming Indiana Jones game, The Great Circle, will feature about three hours and 45 minutes of cutscenes, nearly equivalent to two full movies. This installment is described as the largest and longest game that MachineGames has developed, promising a rich narrative experience that will engage fans of the franchise.
Torvenius revealed that the storyline for The Great Circle has largely stayed true to the original outline that Bethesda director Todd Howard pitched to George Lucas back in 2009. This is a significant point, illustrating the game's connection with the enduring legacy of the Indiana Jones saga and its narrative roots stemming from before Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm.
The Great Circle aims to enhance the gameplay experience by not having instant fails during stealth missions, a feature that has troubled other games within the Lucasfilm universe, such as Star Wars Outlaws. This decision reflects a commitment to providing a more enjoyable and less frustrating experience, demonstrating that player feedback is being taken seriously.
While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 9, 2023, PlayStation 5 players will have to wait until Spring 2025. In the meantime, fans can engage with the theme through an Indiana Jones menu currently offered at IHOP's International Bank of Pancakes, showcasing the franchise's cultural footprint.
