I love the black-and-white beauty of this indie game sequel
Briefly

Swedish indie developer Something We Made decided to create Toem 2 instead of launching new prototypes after the success of their 2021 game Toem. Co-founder Lucas Gullbo indicated that returning to the original game inspired the sequel. The team aims to retain the original’s charm, keeping the monochromatic art style and the original protagonist who evolves in confidence as a photographer. The development approach involved starting from scratch while implementing effective elements from the original game.
According to co-founder and artist Lucas Gullbo, the team had worked on a number of prototypes following their debut game's release, but nothing had stuck.
As a sequel, Toem 2 also doesn't aim to shake up the formula too much, from a decision to stick with the original protagonist who will naturally be a more confident and passionate photographer.
Gullbo laughs. "Adding colour is the first thing everyone suggested, but [monochrome] is a part of the world, so... adding colour just because wouldn't make a whole lot of sense."
We started from scratch basically. It's easier to start fresh and then implement all the things that worked well into the sequel.
