GTA 6 Needed More Time To Achieve Vision With 'No Limits' And Probably Won't Be Delayed Again
Briefly

Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 from its original fall 2025 window to May 26, 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that the decision was made to allow for necessary polish and ensure the studio delivers a game that achieves its creative vision without limitations. Development on the game began in earnest only in 2020. The delay also frees Rockstar from a crowded 2025 schedule, which includes other significant titles.
Earlier this month, Rockstar Games revealed it would delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to May 26, 2026, to ensure no compromises in quality.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated, 'As we get closer to completion of a title...we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations.'
Zelnick emphasized that Rockstar didn't start serious work on GTA 6 until 2020, two years after Red Dead Redemption 2's launch.
The delay allows Rockstar to polish the game better and was, according to Zelnick, a necessary decision to maintain quality amidst a crowded release schedule.
