"In the latest newsletter, Rhys Ellison reveals that Ghost of Yotei has now hit around 2.5 million copies sold as it finishes up its third week on the market. That means it has sold about another million copies since Alinea published initial sales data a few weeks ago. At the time, Alinea noted that Ghost of Yotei had already earned its development budget back on just the 2nd day of sales."
"But the really fun stat that Rhys Ellison revealed is that Sucker Punch's Japanese adventure about taking revenge on a group of masked men has beaten Ubisoft's Japanese adventure about taking revenge on a group of masked men. Yeah, it's a bit weird we had two big-budget open-world games with almost the exact same story premise launch in the same year."
Alinea Analytics reports Ghost of Yotei has sold around 2.5 million copies in its third week, with the game recouping its development budget by day two. The PS5-exclusive performance outpaced Assassin's Creed: Shadows on PS5, which reached about 2.4 million copies after seven months and sits at roughly 4.3 million copies overall across platforms. Ghost of Yotei is limited to a single console, constraining its total market compared with multi-platform releases. Both Ghost of Yotei and Assassin's Creed: Shadows share a similar revenge-driven Japanese open-world premise. Ghost of Tsushima previously surpassed 13 million copies sold.
