From Software is currently developing two multiplayer-centric titles: Elden Ring: Nightreign, scheduled for release on May 30, and The Duskbloods, a Switch 2 exclusive launching in 2026. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the studio head, reassured fans that this does not signify a broader shift towards multiplayer games. The Duskbloods features character-driven gameplay with a narrative revolving around superhuman warriors known as the Bloodsworn in a dystopian setting. Miyazaki confirmed ongoing commitment to single-player titles alongside multiplayer expansions, highlighting the diverse direction of the studio’s future projects.
"As previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn't mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward," Miyazaki said in a Nintendo interview.
"The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring was also announced, and we still intend to actively develop single-player-focused games such as this that embrace our more traditional style."
Miyazaki explained how players will control a group of characters known as the Bloodsworn. Starring a group of superhuman warriors that are similar to vampires, the game takes place during the end of human society.
"Nightreign looks to be very much a From Software game, and I'm more intrigued by it now than I was before getting some time with it," Tamoor Hussain wrote in GameSpot's Elden Ring Nightreign preview.
