Donkey Kong's new design for the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza has been revealed, featuring a kinder look reminiscent of his portrayal in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Designer Kevin Bayliss, who previously overhauled the character, emphasized the importance of evolution in character design. While the redesign has received mixed reactions from fans, Bayliss encourages acceptance, suggesting that change enhances the character's appeal. He likens the evolution of Donkey Kong to the modern progression of other iconic characters, noting that minor updates may continue in the future. Donkey Kong Bananza is set to release on July 17 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
I don't understand why there's any debate to be had. It's still DK, only better looking. People need to embrace change more! All good things get better with age.
Letâs remember, 20 years from now heâll probably receive another ânip and tuckâ here and there to keep him fresh and current. Evolution, while being sympathetic to the original, is an art.
