Final Fantasy Tactics Remake Could Lead To New Content Or A Sequel
"Speaking with Wired, game director Kazutoyo Maehiro discussed possibly adding features from 2007's Final Fantasy Chronicles: War of the Lions release on PlayStation Portable to the remake. "Our first and foremost goal here really was to recreate the original game," said Maehiro. He acknowledged fan feedback for that content, such as the Onion Knight and Black Knight classes, but "cannot make any promises" about them coming eventually to The Ivalice Chronicles."
"As for a proper sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, that will depend on the game's reception and sales. "If [The Ivalice Chronicles] were to become a success, I do feel that that would then lead to discussions around potentially bringing out sequels, for example, or newer tactical RPGs," said Maehiro, who served as events planner for the original Final Fantasy Tactics in 1997."
The Ivalice Chronicles remake aims primarily to recreate the original Final Fantasy Tactics experience while potentially adding War of the Lions content if feasible. The remake includes the War of the Lions script for the classic version and introduces a new Squire difficulty option to help newcomers. Specific features requested by fans, such as the Onion Knight and Black Knight classes, are acknowledged but not guaranteed. The possibility of a full sequel or new tactical RPGs depends on the remake's commercial reception and success. The game will launch September 30 across multiple platforms with a free Switch 2 upgrade.
