The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) expressed its concerns over impending US tariffs on video game imports, warning they could adversely affect hundreds of millions of Americans. As the trade association for major gaming publishers, the ESA emphasized that import taxes would detract from the significant economic contributions of the industry, which had sales of $58.7 billion in 2024. While Canada faces a 25% tariff and China a 10% tariff, the consequences of such tariffs on game prices remain uncertain, although predictions suggest potential price increases.
The ESA warned that import taxes on gaming devices would "negatively impact hundreds of millions of Americans" and harm the industry's contributions to the economy.
The tariffs coming into effect may lead to a rise in prices for both physical and digital video games, as predicted by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella.
