Elden Ring Nightreign is blisteringly, stress-inducingly fast-paced, and more thrilling than I could have imagined - hands-on preview
Briefly

Elden Ring Nightreign stands out as a vibrant, engaging multiplayer experience that exceeds typical expectations associated with Souls games. Initially skeptical about its cooperative nature, I emerged from a seven-hour play session captivated and eager for more. The atmosphere during gameplay was electric, with cheers and camaraderie among players, highlighting a sense of community. The game deviates significantly from the traditional Souls formula, focusing on a rapid tempo and cooperative challenges, while incorporating familiar elements from the Elden Ring universe. This blend fosters a unique connection among players, making it a vital addition to the genre.
Within an hour or so I could hear cheers from across the room. Crowds gathered around groups that were doing well and nearing the final, most challenging battles of a run.
Clearly then, this is not your typical Souls game. In fact, broadly speaking, I'm astonished at how little it resembles those games in all but the most superficial of ways.
