Doom: The Dark Ages, set to launch on May 15, 2025, is the third entry in the nu-Doom series by id Software. Unlike its predecessors, it will completely lack a multiplayer mode. Studio directors Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin emphasized this decision was made to enhance the single-player experience, allowing for the inclusion of grand set pieces like a 30-story Atlan mech and a cyber dragon. This shift reflects their commitment to storytelling and gameplay depth, prioritizing immersive single-player content over multiplayer.
"We wanted to go all in on the campaign," explained Martin, when asked why this game would ship without a multiplayer element, when both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal got one.
"That's something we've wanted to do for ages, for the last two games, really," explains Stratton, specifically referring to the inclusion of the Atlan.
