EA's Star Wars Battlefront II is experiencing a resurgence in players, especially around the May the 4th holiday and the new Star Wars series, Andor. Former DICE producer Mats Holm expressed skepticism about a third Battlefront game being developed, citing challenges in staffing original team members. EA reportedly rejected pitches for Battlefront III due to high licensing costs despite the significant sales success of the previous titles. Currently, DICE is focused on Battlefield 6, which further delays the prospects of any new Battlefront game, although remastering Battlefront II for next-gen consoles has been suggested as a potential future step.
"I don't expect Battlefront 3 to be announced at the end of this rally," said former DICE live producer Mats Holm, reflecting skepticism on the future of the franchise.
Despite the success of the first two games, with combined sales of 33 million copies, EA rejected a proposal for a third Battlefront game citing licensing costs.
Holm proposed that EA consider remastering Battlefront II for the next generation consoles before moving onto develop a third game if successful.
With DICE focusing on Battlefield 6, expectations for a new Battlefront game should be tempered, as development has not officially begun.
