""One of the biggest struggles that we had with Baldur's Gate 3 is every single class has almost different rulesets, so getting players on board with that was quite complicated," Vincke told us."
""I'm surprised that it actually worked out that well," Vincke added."
""I think when you see what we can do when we make something for a video game that's not derived from a tabletop it's going to be a lot better.""
Baldur's Gate 3 established a strong reputation as a leading role-playing game. Its D&D tabletop roots led to nearly unique rulesets for each class, complicating player onboarding. Specific class mechanics, such as the Barbarian's rage and magic-users' spell-slot systems, created a learning curve that favored tabletop-experienced players. Larian plans to develop Divinity with mechanics designed specifically for video games rather than directly adapting tabletop rules. That approach aims to reduce class-specific complexity and equalize the learning curve across players. Divinity will connect to previous series titles and currently has no release date.
