In the latest episode of Call of Duty's official podcast, Kevin Drew, Treyarch's associate design director for Zombies, unveiled significant details about the new Citadelle des Morts map, emphasizing its thematic focus on magic and the introduction of four elemental swords as the unique Wonder Weapons. He noted that while the map is large, it incorporates many claustrophobic spaces within the castle, enhancing the gameplay experience with both expansive and tight settings.
Drew highlighted that the upcoming Zombies update not only introduces Citadelle des Morts but also a return of fan-favorite perks and upgrades, including the Tesla Storm field upgrade and Vulture Aid perk from previous modes. Additionally, players will see new ammo mods and an impressive 18 new augments to enhance their gameplay, promising a fresh experience for veterans and newcomers alike.
To improve gameplay balance, Treyarch is implementing quality-of-life adjustments in the Zombies mode, including significantly reducing Mangler spawns in mid-to-high rounds since many players have found them overwhelming beyond round 25. Moreover, there will be a cap placed on active Manglers up to Round 100, addressing frustrations players have faced in higher-level play, thereby enhancing overall game enjoyment.
Drew also mentioned that the pacing of special rounds like Vermin and Parasite is set to improve, with faster enemy spawn rates introduced in the update. Players will benefit from shorter completion times for these rounds, which have previously been criticized for their sluggishness, thereby facilitating a more enjoyable and dynamic Zombies experience in the forthcoming midseason update.
