Assassin's Creed Shadows Ditched Social Stealth For "Tactical Shinobi Experience"
Briefly

Assassin's Creed Shadows marks a significant turn for the series by abandoning the traditional social stealth mechanics. Ubisoft developers prioritized a tactical shinobi experience instead, limiting the inclusion of blending in with crowds. In Shadows, players will control the character Naoe, who must find cover or use her rope to escape rather than simply hiding in plain sight. Alongside her, samurai character Yasuke presents a stark contrast, emphasizing brute strength and mobility. Future developments hint at a new game, codenamed Assassin's Creed Hexe, set in 16th century Europe focusing on themes of witchcraft.
For Shadows, our stealth team chose to put 100% of their energy on the moment-to-moment tactical shinobi experience, which left no space for Social Stealth.
Traditionally in an Assassin's Creed game, if a guard gives chase you could lose their sight line and then blend in with a group or sit on a bench.
In Shadows, however, the shinobi character Naoe would need to find cover or use her rope to climb out of sight to evade capture.
The next Assassin's Creed game that we know of is codenamed Assassin's Creed Hexe, which focuses on witchcraft and even lets you possess a cat.
