Warner Bros. Discovery's CEO JB Perrette announced that HBO Max will implement a password-sharing crackdown, with new messaging around account usage starting soon. This initiative aims to limit access to single households while introducing membership options for higher users.
Perrette emphasized, "this is an art and a science to try and tighten the filter of who's in there" as HBO Max prepares to collect data on account usage and enforce stricter controls to curb password sharing, especially for those deemed heavy users.
Despite the crackdown, Perrette shared some exciting news about upcoming HBO releases, including the return of Euphoria in 2026 and the sooner arrival of The White Lotus' third season in February.
As service adjustments roll out, viewers can expect tighter filters on account sharing, with explicit and implicit signals determining how effectively HBO Max can enforce these changes leading into 2025.
