Breaking New Ground requires players to donate Basic Materials to rebuild tunnels and unlock Stella Montis. The event begins with a patch and accepts contributions from players who have completed five rounds. Basic Materials are Metal parts, Fabric, Chemicals, Rubber Parts, and Plastic Parts commonly found across maps. Donations award Merits, a capped event currency. Once materials reach the goal, Staking Our Claim adds a progression track and makes Stella Montis accessible. Stella Montis is a near-pristine facility carved into northern mountains and contrasts with existing maps. The map includes unique Arc enemies and items, including the Shredder, a conditional Matriarch encounter, a new legendary weapon, two grenades, and three mines.
