"All nudity in the game is completely censored via pixelation. There is never any visible sexual act involving genitalia and all animations are stylized and unrealistic. Additionally, in the three hours of gameplay contained in the game, there are only four brief and censored sexual sequences, with two of them happening mainly off camera. And finally, we explained that the content presented does not in any way promote abuse (including animal abuse). The game is a strong critique of violence and abuse in general."
Steam banned Horses in 2023 while the game was still in development. Epic Games Store later cancelled the planned release, citing violations of its inappropriate content and hateful or abusive content policies and noting an Adults Only rating exclusion. Santa Ragione says Epic had approved the game three weeks earlier and that official ratings are ESRB M for Mature and PEGI 18 internationally. Santa Ragione describes all nudity as pixelated and gameplay sexual sequences as brief, censored, stylized, and largely off-camera, and argues the game critiques violence and abuse rather than promotes it. Appeals were submitted and subsequently upheld, and storefront listings have been removed or redirected.
