Meta Hyperion data centre: $200 billion, 10 gas plants, and 4,000 acres in rural Louisiana for AI

Meta’s Hyperion AI data center campus in Richland Parish, Louisiana, is projected to cost more than $200 billion, rising from an initial $10 billion announcement in December 2024. The campus covers nearly 4,000 acres and has expanded through additional land purchases, reaching roughly four times the size of Manhattan’s Central Park. Hyperion is planned to include up to nine buildings and deliver 5 gigawatts of computational power, with another 2.5 gigawatts for support systems, cooling, and infrastructure, targeting operations by 2030. Power will come from 10 gas-fired power plants built by Entergy Louisiana, with Meta funding construction and committing to additional renewable energy resources and transmission lines.

Meta reached a new agreement with Entergy in March 2026 for seven additional plants generating 5.2 gigawatts, on top of the initial three. Meta will pay for the construction of all 10 plants and has committed to funding 2.5 gigawatts of new renewable energy resources, 240 miles of new transmission lines"
