Hudson Hills Golf Course, located in Westchester County, has a rich past as The Rising Sun Golf and Country Club, owned by Black entrepreneurs during the 1930s. Joyce Sharrock-Cole uncovered this pivotal history while researching her family's involvement in golf. Despite initial success and local support, the club faced significant opposition, including threats from racist groups and subsequent lawsuits that led to its bankruptcy. Today, public ownership continues the legacy, emphasizing the importance of remembering and sharing such impactful stories from the past.
During the Great Migration, we're talking the late '30s, a Black group of investors banded together to create a golf and country club.

If you stop telling these stories they don't get told.
It was the first of its kind in Westchester County and one of the first in the tri-state area.
