Driver kills 69-year-old woman in Midtown East hit-and-run, police say

A 69-year-old woman was struck and killed by a black SUV in Midtown East, with the driver fleeing the scene. The incident occurred at East 57th Street and Second Avenue early Wednesday morning. Authorities are working to notify the victim's family. This incident follows another hit-and-run in the area where a tractor-trailer driver fatally hit a 44-year-old man. Traffic deaths in the city are comparable to last year's figures, with 35 reported by March 22 this year.
