2 NYC Destinations Ranked Among World's Greatest Places Of 2026: See List
"Led by longtime director Thelma Golden, [The Studio Museum in Harlem] functions as both an archive and incubator for Black artists and Black culture. Viewers will find works by trailblazers such as sculptor Elizabeth Catlett and photographer Gordon Parks sharing real estate with former artists-in-residence turned household names like Kehinde Wiley, Mickalene Thomas, and Kerry James Marshall."
"Travel trends can shift quickly, of course, and global events can reshape itineraries. Yet the impulse to explore endures. At its best, travel is a bridge—an opportunity to encounter new cultures, welcome visitors, and discover how much the unfamiliar can feel surprisingly familiar."
The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Frick Collection on the Upper East Side have been recognized among TIME magazine's World's Greatest Places of 2026. The Studio Museum, reopened in November 2025 after seven years of construction, serves as an archive and incubator for Black artists and culture under director Thelma Golden, featuring works by artists including Elizabeth Catlett, Gordon Parks, Kehinde Wiley, Mickalene Thomas, and Kerry James Marshall. The Frick Collection underwent a $220 million restoration by Selldorf Architects, adding a new floor with access to historic living quarters, new exhibition galleries, an auditorium, education room, restaurant, coffee bar, and restored garden. TIME's annual list features 100 destinations selected by international correspondents, contributors, and reader applications.
