The Design Law Treaty (DLT) aims to harmonize and simplify the procedural requirements for obtaining industrial design protection, significantly enhancing accessibility for designers globally.
Over the course of 17 years, members from 135 countries often engaged in lengthy discussions to create a unified framework for design law, culminating in the adoption of the Riyadh DLT.
The DLT introduces essential provisions like the grace period that strengthen designers’ rights and ultimately contribute to the protection and encouragement of creativity worldwide.
The new legal framework established by the DLT is designed to reduce applicants' administrative burdens by creating uniform rules, which aim to simplify the process of design protection.
