Energia de Portugal Headquarters / ELEMENTAL
Briefly

The architectural project addresses a paradox of urban design, balancing a Masterplan that necessitated public space continuity with the requirement for the building to function cohesively. The design folds the ground to maintain this continuity while linking two linear volumes under a raised section, creating public space that has unobstructed views of the river Tajo. The architects strategically positioned the access away from the square to reinforce its public character, prioritizing citizen use over corporate influence in the space.
the public square is designed as a space that is truly for the citizens, emphasizing accessibility and ensuring that the public remains uninhibited by corporate presence.
the architects faced the challenge of balancing masterplan requirements with the need for visual access to the river, leading to innovative solutions in design.
