Harvard University has firmly declined the Trump administration's attempts to impose changes on its policies, warning of consequences if it does not comply, including potential loss of federal funding. Harvard's leadership, including President Alan M. Garber, argues that no U.S. government should dictate the operations of private institutions. The administration's demands include a reduction in diversity and inclusion programs and addressing allegations of antisemitism, amidst an ongoing review of $9 billion in federal grants and contracts awarded to Harvard.
No government - regardless of which party is in power - should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.
Harvard is not prepared to agree to demands that go beyond the lawful authority of this or any administration.
