White House advisers defend Trump's firing of official behind jobs data
Briefly

Trump fired Erika McEntarfer, the director of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, claiming the latest jobs report was rigged. This dismissal has raised significant concerns about the credibility of US employment data. Kevin Hassett from the White House National Economic Council expressed doubt about the accuracy of reported job figures, calling for more reliable and transparent numbers. Hassett mentioned unprecedented downward revisions to jobs growth, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer supported the move, emphasizing the need for trustworthy employment statistics.
The president wants his own people there so that when we see the numbers, they're more transparent and more reliable... if there are big changes and big revisions we expect more big revisions for the jobs data in September.
What we need is a fresh set of eyes at the BLS, somebody who can clean this thing up... employment statistics can sometimes contain partisan patterns.
You want to be able to have somewhat reliable numbers... sometimes you see these revisions go in really extreme ways.
The downward revision of jobs growth for May and June is unprecedented and a historically important outlier.
