WATCH: Trump Booed During National Anthem at US Open
"Fans tuning in to the U.S. Open men's tennis finals Sunday heard a chorus of boos aimed at President Donald Trump despite the media being asked beforehand by the U.S. Tennis Association not to broadcast any reactions to the president. As the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium stood for the National Anthem, loud boos could be heard over the music when the president's face was shown on the big screen."
"In spite of the memo, the boos could clearly be heard on ABC, which televised the match. An excerpt of the letter read: With respect to Broadcast Coverage, the President will be shown on the World Feed and the Ashe Court Feed during the opening anthem ceremony. We ask all broadcasters to refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the President's attendance in any capacity, including ENG [Electronic News Gathering] coverage."
"Trump, seated alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi, was seen grinning amid the crowd reaction. The reaction was different from what Trump traditionally receives at sporting events but then, so too was the setting. The president is frequently met with cheers and chants of U.S.A. when he attends Ultimate Fighting Championship events, as well as college football games held in red states. Trump notably attended Alabama vs. Georgia game on Sept. 28, 2024, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he drew heavy applause as he greeted fance."
Fans at the U.S. Open men's final booed President Donald Trump as his image appeared on the stadium screen during the National Anthem. The U.S. Tennis Association had requested broadcasters avoid showing any reactions to the president, but the boos were audible on ABC's telecast. Trump sat alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi and appeared to grin amid the crowd reaction. The crowd response contrasted with typically positive receptions Trump receives at some sporting events, including UFC shows and certain college football games. An internal memo asked networks to refrain from showcasing disruptions, and his prior U.S. Open attendance also drew loud boos.
