"The leadership is more concerned with punishing the President's perceived enemies than they are with protecting our national security, wrote Ben'Ary in the note, obtained by Politico."
"While I have the utmost confidence in my co-counsel, Ben'Ary wrote, my abrupt, apparently thoughtless removal with no period of transition will hurt this case."
"Justice for Americans killed and injured by our enemies should not be contingent on what someone in the Department of Justice sees in their social media feed that day, he continued, referencing his surpise at the news of his termination, which came only hours after a conservative commentator highlighted his past role as senior counsel to Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, one of Trump's chief adversaries from former President Joe Biden's administration."
"Rounding out his note, Ben'Ary pleaded with his colleagues, asking them to continue to do the right thing, in the right way, for the right reasons, because our country depends on you."
Michael Ben'Ary, a federal prosecutor with more than 20 years at the Justice Department, was abruptly fired while working on the case against Mohammed Sharifullah tied to the 2021 Abbey Gate airport bombing that killed 13 U.S. service members. Ben'Ary left a warning taped to his office door asserting that leadership cares more about punishing perceived enemies than protecting national security. He warned that his sudden removal without a transition will hurt the prosecution, noting Sharifullah is the only co-conspirator charged in the U.S. The termination followed a conservative commentator's highlighting of Ben'Ary's past role as senior counsel to Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and another former Monaco aide, Maya Song, was fired the prior week. Ben'Ary urged colleagues to continue to act rightly for the country's sake.
