House Speaker Mike Johnson announced he will put a bill requiring release of government files related to Jeffrey Epstein on the House floor next week. Johnson opposes the bill but accelerated the timing after Arizona Democrat Adelita Grijalva was sworn in and became the 218th signature on a discharge petition that triggers an automatic floor vote. Under discharge petition rules a vote would not have been mandatory until early December. Several Republicans have indicated they may support the bill. Epstein died in 2019 while awaiting trial, and the Justice Department previously declined to release further case details.
