Three injured Palestinian children have arrived in San Francisco for urgent medical care, but the U.S. State Department's suspension of visitor visas for people from Gaza risks this program. Advocates and officials express outrage at the policy, emphasizing its impact on vulnerable children. Heal Palestine, a nonprofit aiding these children, echoes their distress over the decision, stating its mission is strictly medical assistance. The actions undertaken by the U.S. government have sparked significant condemnation from numerous parties highlighting the dire situation of displaced children in need of urgent care.
"It is outlandish beyond belief that in the Trump administration's ongoing Israel-first policies and targeting of immigrants that they would then turn their attention to the most vulnerable children in the world," Zahra Billoo, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, San Francisco Bay Area office, told KQED.
"HEAL Palestine is an American humanitarian nonprofit organization delivering urgent aid and medical care to children in Palestine, including sponsoring and bringing severely injured children to the U.S. on temporary visas for essential medical treatment not available at home," the nonprofit said in a statement.
