Thompson said the incident frightened his family and neighbors and cited recent political violence including the Paul Pelosi attack. The Jones campaign characterized the matter as a non-event, denied theft or threat, and blamed Thompson for manufacturing an issue, while Jones took responsibility for an over-enthusiastic volunteer and said the campaign addressed the matter internally.
