UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction
"Some customers of the shipping service say that packages sent to the US from abroad are getting held up at the carrier's facilities for weeks and, in some cases, are being subjected to higher-than-expected tariffs and customs brokerage fees, according to tracking information. Eight people whom Business Insider spoke to said that they received updates indicating they might never get their packages at all."
"A UPS spokesperson said the company was seeing "a significant increase" in the number of shipments that require formal customs clearance. For some UPS customers, the changes have meant that additional information or payments are required to complete certain shipments. Kunal Sharma, an auto parts business owner in Canada, said he sent four car wheels, each in a separate box, to a customer in Texas in late August."
UPS international shipments to the US are experiencing widespread delays, holds at carrier facilities, and occasional disposal notices. Many shipments face unexpected tariffs and customs-brokerage fees after the end of the de minimis exemption for imports under $800. Personal gifts under $100 remain exempt, but increased complexity has led some carriers to suspend higher-value international shipments to the US. UPS reported a substantial rise in shipments requiring formal customs clearance, prompting requests for additional information or payments to complete deliveries. Some senders have had packages returned or marked undeliverable and destined for disposal while tracking shows movement between facilities.
