"It's just creating a dangerous environment,"
"Like, you could have a transgender individual who rooms with their friend, and then all of a sudden, they're moved with someone who has violent tendencies towards people like that."
"The enactment marks the culmination of 10 years of Texas Republicans trying to pass a bathroom ban without previous success, and represents the consistent push against trans rights in the U.S. under Trump."
Students at the University of Texas San Antonio who share bathrooms between adjacent rooms are being forced to relocate because of Texas Senate Bill 8. The law requires restroom and facility access in taxpayer-funded buildings to be restricted based on gender assigned at birth, and it applies to public universities and other public buildings. The bill, marketed as the Texas Women's Privacy Act, takes effect December 4 and makes Texas the 20th state to impose bathroom restrictions. Rehousing mixed-gender dorm residents raises safety concerns, especially for transgender and non-binary students who may be moved into unsafe situations.
