President Trump is threatening world leaders with tariff hikes through a series of largely copy-and-pasted letters as the U.S. exceeds its 90-day deadline for trade deals with 90 countries. These letters, revealed on Trump's Truth Social account, follow a template with minor adjustments for country names and tariff rates. Many target smaller trading partners, with the Philippines facing increased tariffs of 20 percent, up from an earlier 17 percent warning. The flurry of threats comes as only two deals were finalized, with major trading partners not identified among those receiving them.
Each letter begins with the phrase, 'It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter,' lamenting that despite years to discuss the trading relationship, it remains ‘unfortunately, far from Reciprocal.’
Recent letters target mainly minor trading partners like the Philippines, Moldova, and Brunei, while major ones like South Korea and Japan also received identical letters on Monday.
