Former President Trump has rescinded Secret Service protection for ex-Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, confirming a significant shift in security protocol for Biden-era officials. Initially extended by President Biden, Mayorkas's security was set to last until mid-July before Trump abruptly cut it short. This decision follows a broader trend, as several officials including those in Biden's family and former government figures like Anthony Fauci have also lost their protective details. The Secret Service has not commented on specific security protocols regarding this decision but confirmed it was enacted through a presidential memorandum.
"Per executive memorandum of the President, the protective detail for former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been discontinued," a Secret Service spokesperson told The Post.
Trump has also removed protection that was afforded to his former secretary of state during his first term, Mike Pompeo, and ex-national security advisor John Bolton amid threats on their lives from Iran.
