"The administration turned its back on the climate "hoax", as Trump describes it, withdrawing from the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, the basis for the Paris climate agreement (abandoned twice by Trump in his two terms), and signed by 197 nations in 1992. Other non-U.N. organizations were dropped as well, including the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation, the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, and the Global Counterterrorism Forum."
"They're also "woke", according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The U.S. set the pullout in motion with one of the 225 executive orders Trump has issued in his second term, entitled "Withdrawing the United States from International Organizations, Conventions, and Treaties that Are Contrary to the Interests of the United States," announced on January 7."
The administration issued an executive order on January 7 titled "Withdrawing the United States from International Organizations, Conventions, and Treaties that Are Contrary to the Interests of the United States," initiating pullouts from 66 named organizations, conventions, and treaties with additional reviews ongoing. The moves target U.N. bodies on women's rights, family planning, maternal and child health, and preventing sexual violence in conflict, and remove the U.S. from the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and other non-U.N. groups such as the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation and the Global Counterterrorism Forum. Officials justified the actions with an America First rationale and criticized targeted organizations as captured or "woke."
