Trump threatens to sue the BBC for up to $5 billion DW 11/15/2025
""We'll sue them for anywhere between a billion and five billion dollars, probably some time next week. I think I have to do it. They've even admitted that they cheated," the president told reporters aboard Air Force One."
""I'm going to call him over the weekend. He actually put a call into me. He's very embarrassed," he said."
""While the BBC sincerely regrets the manner in which the video clip was edited, we strongly disagree there is a basis for a defamation claim," the letter read."
President Donald Trump announced plans to sue the BBC for between $1 billion and $5 billion over a misleading edit of his speech. The BBC apologised for the edit but denied that a defamation claim is justified. The editing spliced two excerpts more than 50 minutes apart, removing a passage in which Trump urged supporters to demonstrate peacefully and creating the impression he incited the Capitol riot. The controversy prompted the resignations of BBC Director General Tim Davie and Chief Executive of News Deborah Turness. Trump said he will raise the matter with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
