"false, defamatory, deceptive, disparaging, inflammatory, and malicious depiction of President Trump,"
"a brazen attempt to interfere in and influence"
"splicing together two entirely separate parts of President Trump's speech on January 6, 2021"
"for putting words in my mouth."
President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit seeking $10 billion in damages from the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of defamation and deceptive and unfair trade practices. The complaint alleges the BBC spliced together two separate parts of Trump's January 6, 2021 speech to intentionally misrepresent his words and influence the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The BBC apologized for the edit and the chairman called it an "error of judgment," while the broadcaster rejected defamation claims and saw its top executive and head of news resign. The hourlong documentary "Trump: A Second Chance?" aired days before the 2024 election and presented edited quotes that appeared to urge supporters to "fight like hell," omitting parts where Trump called for peaceful demonstrations. Trump said he was suing because the broadcaster put words in his mouth.
