Trump says 'WE'RE SCREWED!' if the Supreme Court overturns his tariffs
"President Donald Trump has a warning about a potential loss on tariffs at the Supreme Court. "If the Supreme Court rules against the United States of America on this National Security bonanza, WE'RE SCREWED," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday. That warning, contained in the latest post in what's become a regular stream of Truth Social missives on the subject of tariffs and the Supreme Court, comes as observers await to see how the court rules."
"If that happens, the US may have to refund the billions of dollars in revenue that the government has collected from the IEEPA tariffs. Trump argued that the amount was worth "Trillions of Dollars" when accounting for investments that US companies have made to avoid tariffs. "It would be a complete mess, and almost impossible for our Country to pay," Trump wrote."
The Supreme Court could soon decide whether tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) are lawful, with a ruling possibly arriving as soon as Wednesday. Lower courts have found many of the tariffs illegal, and prediction markets place about a 70% chance of a ruling against Trump. A ruling against the United States could require refunds of billions collected under IEEPA. Trump warned on Truth Social that such an outcome would be catastrophic and estimated broader costs at "Trillions of Dollars" including corporate investments to avoid tariffs. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said refunding tariffs would not be a problem.
