Trump says US will send more weapons to Ukraine DW 07/08/2025
Briefly

US President Donald Trump announced plans to send more weapons to Ukraine as the country faces intensified attacks from Russia. He emphasized the need for Ukraine to defend itself, stating they are currently facing significant challenges. The US has historically been a major military supporter of Ukraine, though there are concerns about future aid under Trump's administration. Trump expressed frustration with Russian President Putin, noting a lack of progress toward peace negotiations, and criticized the Kremlin's stance on US military support for Ukraine being a hindrance to resolution.
"We're going to send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves," Trump told reporters at the White House.
"They're getting hit very hard now," he added. "We're going to have to send more weapons, defensive weapons, primarily," Trump said ahead of a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump appears to have grown increasingly frustrated with Russian President Vladimir Putin and last week said there had been "no progress" to bring an end to Moscow's continued invasion.
The Kremlin said that sending arms to Ukraine prolonged the fighting. "It is obvious of course that these actions probably do not align with attempts to promote a peaceful resolution."
