Trump pushed for grisly anti-fentanyl ads airing now
"Don't take fentanyl - because if you do, you'll be dead like me,"
"birthday, I'll never forget - because it was my last,"
"organs painfully deteriorated,"
"One thing he intuitively understands is that people see a lot of ads, but that it has to stand out,"
Trump wanted hard-edged portrayals of death and addiction to provoke strong viewer reactions. One ad shows an actor playing a fentanyl user describing rapid deterioration of teeth, skin and hair and saying, 'Don't take fentanyl - because if you do, you'll be dead like me.' Another spot depicts a young woman stretchered from a club after taking fentanyl-laced marijuana and a man whose organs 'painfully deteriorated' before he died alone. The ads conclude by urging viewers to join President Trump's fight to end the fentanyl crisis. Make America Fentanyl Free received approval to run the spots. Key advisers Chris LaCivita, John Brabender and Danielle Alvarez are involved, and the effort drew inspiration from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's campaign.
