Trump: Greenland will be America's 'one way or another' DW 03/05/2025
Briefly

President Donald Trump reaffirmed his desire to bring Greenland under U.S. control during a congressional address, stating his ambition to elevate the territory economically and strategically. However, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede responded firmly, rejecting any notion of annexation and declaring that Greenland is not for sale. Experts suggest increasing U.S. military presence pressure, noting that any attempt to acquire Greenland would necessitate Denmark's consent. The Danish defense minister has also made it clear that Greenland's status will not change, maintaining the island's autonomy under Danish governance.
"Together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before," he said, adding, "one way or another, we're going to get it."
"We are not for sale and can't just be taken," he wrote in a Facebook post. "We don't want to be Americans the Americans and their leader must understand that."
Do I anticipate some sort of military operation in the near future? No, but I do anticipate more pressure on Denmark and Greenland to increase maybe a US military presence there,
Although an autonomous territory, it is still ruled by the Danish crown. Any American effort to acquire Greenland would therefore have to include Denmark.
