Trump Deploys Justice Dept. to Ramp Up Attacks on Higher Ed
Briefly

The DOJ has increased its involvement in American higher education, exemplified by its pressure on University of Virginia president James Ryan to resign over diversity and inclusion issues. Legal experts view this as an unprecedented escalation, marking a new level of scrutiny. Critics describe the situation as a coordinated attack that produces fear among educational institutions. The Trump administration's aggressive actions, including executive orders and funding freezes, further contribute to a chilling atmosphere within higher education, with the DOJ's role being particularly prominent in these developments.
There's nothing normal about any of what's going on here. It's such a carefully orchestrated attack that I've found myself thinking it's almost impressive in a demented way. This feels like fear-mongering.
It's perfectly appropriate for the DOJ to play a more assertive role. But by enlisting the DOJ as it has, the Trump administration is now ramping things up several more notches. This is a problem in its own right and a troubling development.
