Marc Short, a former official in the Trump administration, openly condemned Trump's recent pardons of reality stars and convicted criminals, arguing they exemplify a troubling pattern. During a CNN segment, he emphasized that while he supports Trump's policies, he cannot defend the pardon decisions. Highlighting the pardons as not only questionable but also damaging to the administration's tough-on-crime image, Short stated that they symbolize a deeper issue within Trump's leadership style, aligning with the swamp politics he was supposed to oppose.
I have no interest in defending his pardon policy. I think it's been pretty gross. ... the pardons that came out, there's a lot of coverage at that point about January 6th.
This is part of a pattern and it has been almost accelerating in part because Trump has put a huge loyalist in the pardon office.
That just seems to be the swamp being filled, not drained.
For the administration that I think prides itself on being tough on crime, the first administration, pardons are inexcusable.
